Community Health Department

Community health extension workers are trained by the Community Health Department to improve the health and well-being of the community as a whole.

Theoretical instruction is presented to students in this program; supervised experience in the community and supervised experience in the clinic.

In community health practices, there are three cadres:

1. 2. JCHEW Certificate in Community Health 3. Certificate in Community Health (CHEW) 

Higher Diploma in Community Health (CHO) The first two of these cadres receive instruction in Colleges or Schools of Health Technologies, while the third receives instruction in Teaching Hospitals. 

The Community Health Practitioner Registration Board of Nigeria oversees both the education and practice of community health workers.

OBJECTIVES OF TRAINING:

To produce community health workers with the appropriate and adequate knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the efficient delivery of primary health care services. Entry Requirement (CHEW): Five credit passes at SSCE or GCE O’LEVEL in WAEC or NECO in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in no more than two sittings. BOARD EXAMINATION The Community Health Practitioner Registration Board of Nigeria conducts a nationwide examination at the conclusion of the three-year Diploma in Community Health program and the two-year Certificate in Community Health programs. The same Nigerian Board issues certifications and licenses to practice to the successful candidates.

A LIMIT ON ADMISSION A maximum of 75 students are accepted into each class for the Diploma in community health: 25 returning students and fifty regular students. 50 students per class will receive a certificate in community health if they meet the regulatory board's requirements.

There are currently 320 students enrolled in the department. 

Admission Requirement CHEW i. WASCE, SSCE, NECO, or GCE O/L with (5) credits at more than two sittings, which must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. 

200 Level - 123 Students (73 CHEW, 50 JCHEW) 

300 Level - 82 Students (82 CHEW) 

Time Span: ii. Three years (six semesters). Junior People group Expansion Laborers with 2 years' post capability experience notwithstanding the above necessity referenced, and candidate Should be enrolled with the Local area Wellbeing Professionals Enlistment Leading body of Nigeria (CHPRBN) and gangs a substantial practice permit.

Duration: JCHEW 1: Two Years and Four Semesters Passes the WASCE or NECO examination with five credits in English, mathematics, biology, or any other two subjects in no more than two sittings.
